In honor of my 28th birthday, I’ll provide you with a little flashback to 1980 (the year I was born).
A gallon of gas in 1980 cost $1.19 (I just bought gas yesterday for $1.68 a gallon). A new car cost $7,200.
Domestic camcorders and fax machines were first available in Japan in 1980.
Pac-Man was released in 1980.
War broke out between Iraq and Iran (You’d think my 4th grade teacher would have realized they weren’t the same country if they were at war with one another…).
There was a major heat wave the summer my mom was preggers with me, resulting in 1,117 deaths in 20 states. I suppose this is where I should thank her dearly for enduring that.
Ronald Reagan was elected president.
CNN became the first 24-hour news station.
Popular movies included: ”Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back,” “Superman II,” “Nine to Five,” “Raging Bull,” and “Coal Miner’s Daughter.” Is it sad that I’ve only seen one of those?
Popular bands included: ABBA, AC/DC, David Bowie, The Cars, Eric Clapton, Michael Jackson, KC & The Sunshine Band, Paul McCartney, Pink Floyd, The Police, Queen and Diana Ross. Is it sad that I still listen to all of those?
