I know it’s a couple days late, but here’s Friday’s “If I Had But One.” I was a chaperone at a camp for elementary school kids over the weekend, so don’t hold it against me that I was late. It will probably happen again.
Okay.
If I had but one color to wear and could never wear another color, I would wear hot pink.
Hot pink is fun, bright, energetic, happy, full of life, outgoing, spirited, kind, loving, loud, funny and adaptable.
How, you ask?
FUN – Well, it just is. I said so.
BRIGHT – Duh. Look at it.
ENERGETIC – It makes me feel like going for a bike ride. Wait, my bike is hot pink. Maybe there’s something to that.
HAPPY – When I wear hot pink or see someone else wearing the lovely hue, I just feel like smiling. There’s something about it that just sort of inspires me to be bubbly…giddy…childlike!
FULL OF LIFE – I’ve got this hot pink shirt I’ve had since high school. It’s a t-shirt. It doesn’t fit quite as loosely as it once did, though it does still fit. The thing has been washed like 13,746 times (maybe a slight exaggeration), and yet it is still hot pink. It doesn’t dull. The shirt has camped, snow skied, lounged, crumpled itself in many bags, swam, painted houses, mowed yards, built wheelchair ramps, biked, played soccer and has moved at least five times. It is still as full of life as it was when I brought it home for the first time over ten years ago.
OUTGOING – Everyone I know who loves hot pink is also outgoing.
SPIRITED – I mean, just compare it to brown. Hot pink has way more spunk.
KIND – I’m not really sure how a color can be kind, but if any one color was to be kind it would be a shade of pink or purple, and since hot pink hovers somewhere between the two, it wins by default.
LOVING – See above. Plus, reds and pinks are often synonymous with love and Valentine’s Day, so it just sort of makes sense…at least in my twisted mind.
LOUD – Well, I’m going to go about this one a bit backwards. If I had to picture a color that was quiet and shy, it would probably be a shade of green or a pale yellow. Since pink (or red) is on the other side of the spectrum from green, it just sort of has to be loud by default.
FUNNY – Well, I’m funny and I like hot pink. I don’t know this all is seeming a bit odd now.
ADAPTABLE – You can wear hot pink with lots of colors: black, green, gray, white, navy, brown, and oodles of shades of other colors. Thus, hot pink is adaptable to whatever color scheme comes its way. In addition, it is just as happy being the center of attention as being a splash of color in an accessory.
Okay, that was far too analytical for my tastes, and probably a bit of a stretch, but I really do love the color and would wear it gladly, even if I could never wear another color.
