ShoeShe’s Sweater Vests

I must admit…I’ve always loved sweater vests.  It seems, however, that they are a slightly awkward match for my political personality. In a VERY unscientific Google Images search, I found 4 Republican Senators and several pictures of John McCain wearing sweater vests, while I couldn’t find a single Democrat in my beloved sweater vests. Let me tell you why I love the sweater vest.  It is a happy medium.  You get the stylishness of a sweater, with the comfort and freedom to move your arms as you please.  You also are able to wear a coat over a sweater vest, while sometimes sweaters are constricting inside a coat.  Sweater vests are the ultimate in comfortable style.  They have their moments of popularity, followed by their off-seasons when it seems that only nerds and grandfathers wear them.  I, for one, will always love sweater vests.  I think they are cute and classy for women and girls, sexy on men (when worn correctly) and adorable on little boys (just screams of Easter pics gone by).

Celebrity Sweater Vests

Check this out.  Doug wore a sweater vest in the 90s, and he was a somewhat geeky, though normal kid.  Ditka wore a sweater vest in the 80s, and he was a pretty cool guy.  Ugly Betty wears sweater vests now, and though she seems to be a misfit/ oddball/ weirdo, she’s a pretty normal adult.  She makes it okay to be different…to be yourself.  Justin Timberlake brought sexy back in his sweater vests just a couple of years ago.  The O.C. made sweater vests okay in the last few years.  Archie’s sweater vest persona spanned at least 6 decades, and he was always the middle of the road, normal teenager with normal friends.  So, sweater vests can be cool.

FYI:  Sweater vests also keep your core temperature warm, thus keeping your arms warm.  So, even if you thought you needed a bulky sweater to stay warm, you really only need the middle part.  That’s why you can snow ski comfortably in almost any weather, while wearing a down vest, instead of a coat.

So…I guess sweater vests really do fit my political personality.  They are on a bit of a fashion rollercoaster.  They allow freedom and comfort.  They are non-constricting.  They keep your core warm.

Hmmm.  Really?  Well…here’s the deal:

I am on a bit of a political rollercoaster.  While I am a registered Democrat, I have voted for Republicans and will probably continue to do so.  I am either a conservative Democrat or a very liberal Republican.  So, I tend to go up and down on the political spectrum.

I am all for freedom and comfort.  I think all people should have the freedom to thrive…if that means spending more on social programs and less on national defense, then so be it.  I am for well-rounded and full education for all.  I am for helping those who need help…without just giving a handout.  I am for building our future by building our children and youth today.

I am for a non-constrictive government, where it’s okay to believe what you want to believe.  I am for human rights…civil liberties…justice.

I am for conserving our environment…keeping our core at the right temperature.  I’m not as far out there as Al Gore, but I do believe in doing more to conserve energy…to limit waste…to shrink landfills…etc.

So I guess I’m for…

Really…I’m still undecided.  Any help?  Any comments?  Seriously.  And tell me…WHY, not just “Because you should be Republican” or “Because you should be Democrat.”

Just saying.

Okay, so you know I don’t know enough about that stuff to help you. I will let Hey You and smarter people do that. I did see a t-shirt that made me laugh. It said “Jesus didn’t ride an elephant.” You’ve probably seen that before but I hadn’t in my sheltered life, and I thought it was amusing.

By the way, I don’t think you’re a dork for wearing sweater vests, but I do think you’re a dork for making a photo montage of you in sweater vests.

  2. Hey You Says:

I am with cat on what makes you a dork. Oh, and you are a liberal Republican (me too) who lives in a Yellow Dog State, and is surrounded by Democrats who vote that way without bothering to research the candidates. I hate to say it but it is the same reason you joined a sorority, to fit in and because people around you thought it was the right thing to do. Same reason you had to switch your major so many times. The thing is….you are so much SMARTER than that. You can think for yourself.

I waited a long time to respond to this because I did not want to make you mad, I hope I didn’t, but you MADE me post!

    Love you! Go McCAIN!!

So…Hey You…you didn’t address any of the reasons I should vote either way. You just told me more of the same. Blah…blah…blah…everybody’s doing it…blah…blah…blah. You didn’t make me mad. I pretty much knew that I was a people pleaser. However, I also always vote for the candidate…not the party. I’ve voted for numerous…okay, a handful…of Republicans over the years. What I fear is an ultra conservative Supreme Court at this point. Let’s face it…justices are getting old, and the next couple of presidents will likely reshape the Supreme Court, which could have cultural and economic consequences…or benefits. The goal should be a somewhat diverse body of justices, however, it seems Republicans only seat conservatives, while Democrats tend to seat those who can and will see two sides of every issue. I’m being judgmental here, but a true conservative is conservative on virtually every issue…I don’t know that this country could stomach a truly conservative Court. Just saying.
